d-c-fix 346-8026 Decorative Self-Adhesive Film, Whitewood, 26″ x 78″ Roll

I have been designing displays for my statues and collectibles. I wanted a dark wood exterior to match the room, but a bright white interior to make the brightly-colored toys “pop”. My solution was either to paint or go with some sort of paper. Given my shelves were from IKEA and laminate, painting would have been a huge hassle, so I found this paper.First, from a looks perspective, it’s amazing. From across the room looks EXACTLY like painted white wood. The grain is great and it even has that feel. Works wonders in my shelves. The bad: this stuff is a 10/10 in difficulty to work with. It is obscenely unforgiving in terms of ANY mistake. It is extremely adhesive once you pull the backing off. If you need to reposition, forget about it. You’ll end up stretching it beyond repair.Next, ANY imperfection or particle (I’m talking the smallest speck of dust) will produce a large bubble or bump in the paper. It doesn’t matter how clean you think the surface is. Trust me, you’ve missed something. And the less porous the surface, the less forgiving the paper is.If you need to line it up against an edge, forget about it. If you’re off by a fraction of a millimeter you’ll end up with an extremely skewed application by the time you reach the other side. I’m honestly not 100% convinced this is perfectly straight. You’re better off leaving a lot of overhang and trimming (if possible). Unfortunately due to the few options with sizes, sometimes you HAVE to make a join. This is impossible without it being very noticeable. There is simply no way you’ll ever exactly line up two pieces without a seam. Finally, if you’re trying to cover a very long area, it’s extremely difficult to unroll the paper while trying to get it flat. You have to keep removing the backing as you go, otherwise it will bunch up underneath. But if you mess up and the adhesive back gets stuck to the front of the paper, it’s game over for that roll. It’s a nightmare to try and get it unstuck. Goo gone won’t phase it and you’ll end up ruining the roll trying to pull it apart. If this is the look you’re going for, by all means it looks phenomenal once you get it on. But do yourself a favor and order 3x how much you think you’ll need. Trust me. I’ve placed a dozen or more orders. Nothing is worse than being close to finishing a project at 11PM on a Sunday and trashing your last roll.
